Authentication of devices without a browser
The normal procedure for access to a WiFi hotspot requires the user to enter their credentials in the browser (username / password or code of the ticket).
In some cases, however, we need to authenticate (ie granting access to the internet) of devices without a browser such as IP cameras, routers, CPE etc.
My WiFi Service supports two authentication methods without browser: with Mac Address and PPPoE.
Authentication with the Mac Address of device
To enable this mode, you must first activate its flag within the location settings and send the script to the router. Now let's say we want to authenticate an IP camera: we will only create a registered user and enter the MAC Address of the camera in the relevant field of the card user.
Likewise, if you want to authenticate a router, we will use the Mac Address of the router's WAN port..
PPPoE authentication
This type of authentication is supported only on location with Mikrotik router. To activate it, simply enable its flag within the location settings page, select the Ethernet interface and re-send the configuration script. The CPE device to authenticate will be set in PPPoE client mode specifying the username and password of the respective registered user (the same ones that are normally used in authentication via browser).
These two authentication modes are particularly useful for the WISP/ISP who need to authenticate the router located at their customers.
In this case you have to use the following configurations:
- From the control panel of My WiFi Service, turn off the automatic disconnection of users in (Preferences | Misc) menu.
- In the router that must be authenticated set the WAN port in DHCP (or in PPPoE client) and make sure that it's active the DHCP server and the NAT (enabled by default in the router) so the router will provide the connectivity obtained from WAN to connected devices on its LAN port or WiFi.
- If you want to authenticate the antennas (eg. Ubiquiti) ensure that the device is in router mode and enable DHCP and NAT.
